Our team of educators and coaches understand that a well-established athletic program is a major contributor in the equipping process as students are challenged individually to excel, to consider their team contribution and to recognize the importance of discipline in achieving success.
Our leadership team recognizes that physical fitness and participation in sports can help to increase academic performance, prepare students to become successful time managers and to grow in areas of self-confidence, organization and leadership – essential components in character development.
Students are engaged in a physical fitness program that encourages fundamental skill development while ensuring opportunities for all to participate. As students enter junior high, they experience a balanced approach between participatory and competitive athletics. Students that possess the highest sports related skills will begin to realize greater involvement and attention as they are being prepared for interscholastic level sports (competitive in nature) that begin at the seventh grade level.
At the interscholastic level, coaches and athletes are expected to represent the school with the highest level of Christ-like character and respect, both on and off the playing field. Our desire to “win” is reflective of our nature in Christ and therefore a worthwhile pursuit. We encourage parents to support – and athletes to wholeheartedly embrace – the elements that produce winning teams. A commitment to balance coursework and athletics is essential in developing a sense of teamwork and belonging. The importance of attending practices, embracing the ethics of teamwork, devotion and sacrifice become part of the honorable pursuit of winning at Lake Center Christian School.
